Líneas de investigación: Química y microbiología de suelos, Nutrición, Micorrizas y su efecto en los suelos, Producción vegetal.

El foco de mi línea de investigación dice relación con el estudio del rol ejercido por los hongos de las micorrizas en el mejoramiento del crecimiento de las plantas cuando estas son sometidas a diversas condiciones de estrés, tanto abióticos como bióticos. Dentro de los abióticos cabe mencionar los nutricionales (principalmente fósforo), de salinidad, de Aluminio y metales pesados y de déficit hídrico. Como parte de los estreses bióticos se estudia el efecto de las micorrizas sobre el metabolismo secundario de las plantas y su relación con la liberación de compuestos volátiles repelentes o atractantes de insectos que pudieran generar o combatir plagas que afectan a los cultivos.

En la UCT y en la Universidad de La Frontera se concentran el mayor número de investigadores a nivel nacional que trabajan en estos temas formando parte de CIMYSA (Centro de Investigación en Micorrizas y Agricultura Sustentable) integrante de la South American Mycorrhizal Research Network (192 investigadores de 32 países). Además se poseen nexos con Investigadores de Autralia, N.Zelandia, USA, Francia, Alemania, México, entre otros.

Participa actualmente en variados proyectos de investigación con Fondos Nacionales (FONDECYT) como Investigador Principal o Co-investigador en proyectos Regulares y de Postdoctorado e Iniciación a la Investigación.
